The Little Girl I Once Knew
Written by: Brian Wilson
Produced by: Brian Wilson
Recording date: October 13, 1965
Master Number: #55297
Lead Vocal by: Carl, Brian and Mike
Originally appeared on: Best of the Beach Boys-Volume III
Subsequently appeared on: Spirit of America; Summer Dreams; The Best of the Beach Boys; Good Vibrations
This single released in the fall before "Pet Sounds" showed further progression in Brian's style of writing in it's fragmentary approach. However, the "dead time" on the single, which was full of stops and starts, made it radio unfriendly and it was a relative flop. While it appears slightly contrived when compared to "Pet Sounds", it still features a great intro and vocals, and prefaces "Pet Sounds" sense of disillusionment and loss of innocence.
0:33 Clicks, sounds a little like the percussion at 1:25. Bleedthrough?
A-side with: There's No Other (Like My Baby)
Released on: November 27, 1965
Charted on: November 27, 1965
