Remembering John Walker

Just a few days after I reflected on the recent loss of Beach Boys fans, sad news has came out of another loss of someone who was a small part of Beach Boys history, but a big part of 60s music. John Maus was known to Beach Boys fans as the person who helped Carl Wilson and David Marks learn guitar, but he is much better known as John Walker, one-third of the Walker Brothers. And the Walker Brothers, all transplanted Americans living in England, were at one stage rivalling the Beatles in popularity according to some polls.

Those who read this blog will know I am a huge fan of Scott Walker, but John Walker was also talented – have a look and listen to this video which features his haunting composition “I Can’t Let This Happen To You.”

John Walker passed away at the weekend after a battle with liver cancer.  By all accounts, he was a generous and kind person and will be greatly missed by those close to him, and music fans around the world.
