Early September sees another very significant release on a numerically significant day. 9 September 2009 – 09-09-09, will see the remastered Beatles catalogue released on CD. There will be box sets in both mono and stereo, and each CD will have a short DVD excerpt based around the time of the individual album release. John Lennon will be delighted…his favorite number will be honored in a special way in these re-releases of his greatest works.

Having heard much of the new Prefab Sprout album, I now make no apologies for pushing it on this blog. Certainly, for me this looks like the music event of 2009 and an album much needed in this time – all about the healing power and transcendental nature of music. You can here extracts of the album on this Amazon page.
Getting West
Tuesday, August 18th, 2009You will remember Adam Marsland on this blog from his 2007 live tribute album for Dennis and Carl. His new album (and first of original music since 2004) is released today and is already storming up the Amazon charts -it’s at #24 as I write this. Cabin review is still to come, but based on his track record and other recommendations, you would do well to get this now.

The fall edition of Endless Summer Quarterly focuses on the story behind the latest Beach Boys compilation, Summer Love Songs. David Beard interviews Alan Boyd and Mark Linett, two of the key people involved in the project. Jon Stebbins also writes about the rediscovery of some Shut Down Vol 2 tapes that were used in compiling the album. There are also reviews of shows by Mike and Al (different shows…no reunion yet!). As always, the magazine has exclusive and up to date info for fans- get your copy by going to their website.
Another Free CD
Sunday, August 2nd, 2009Those living in the United Kingdom who regularly buy the Sunday papers will automatically own a big CD and DVD collection as these papers regularly include these as “freebies.” In 2004, a Brian Wilson CD was one of these and got him into hot water with Mike Love, who used it as part of his failed lawsuit. Anyway, today there is another CD with the Mail on Sunday, including the following songs
1 Good Vibrations
2 California Girls
3 When I Grow Up
4 I Know There’s An Answer
5 Dance Dance Dance
6 Darlin’
7 Surfin USA
8 Wild Honey
9 Sloop John B
11 I Get Around
11 Help Me Rhonda
12 Make it Big
Odd tracklist, with some of the biggest hits with some of the “second tier” songs and one obscurity.
